DMV Test Bike FAQ

Where do I start?
If you don't yet have your motorcycle permit you'll want to head down to any DMV, read the motorcycle handbook, and take the written test. You do not need an appointment for this. Here's some helpful links. Note if you have not recently taken the drivers written test, the DMV may ask you to take that test as well.

How do I get an appt?
FIRST call the dmv at 800-777-0122, or go online (right after midnight works very well) and book any Tuesday or Thursday driving test appt at the San Diego Clairemont DMV. If you cannot get an appt let me know, and WE CAN HELP, priority goes to those doing the private training. Again, contact the dmv first.

When is the Bike Available?
The DMV Test Bike is available every Tuesday and Thursday at the San Diego Clairemont DMV. FIRST call the dmv, IF YOU CAN'T GET A APPT LET ME KNOW, I CAN HELP! Priority goes to folks taking the skills pack.

What/Where?
All you need to do is show up with your helmet and permit and $50. I'll meet you in the motorcycle parking are at the San Diego Clairemont DMV (directions below). You don't need to bring insurance, you do not need to check in at the window first. Trust me. I'll take care of all the paperwork for you. If you don't have a helmet you can borrow mine.

How Much?
Test Bike: $50 buckaroos covers bike delivery to the DMV, insurance on the bike, practice, and the test (in other words, everything you need to get your license).
Skillspack: $199. Includes 4 hours one on one practice on the bike. Day one: 3 hours practice. Day 2: more practice then DMV test.
Payment accepted: cash on site.

What Type of Bike is it?
A Yamaha tw200 supermoto. It was chosen specifically because it is the smallest freeway legal motorcycle made, is lightweight, has a tall smooth first gear, and has a low seat height. It's been set up specifically for the test with street tires, lower seat height, and smoother gearing. I've had 4'10 riders use the bike without any issues

What does the test involve?
Here's a low quality video of the dmv bike in action that'll give you a good idea. The test is relatively easy on the right bike. VIDEO

Where is the San Diego Clairemont DMV?
4375 Derrick Dr.,
San Diego, 92117
(800) 777-0133 DMV Map
Meeting spot: Front of DMV, motorcycle parking area

Are you affiliated with the DMV?

No. The Test Bike offers services so you can pass the state exam. You'll need to call the DMV at 1-800-777-0133 to book your appointment. If you can't get an appt call me!

How Do I Get an Appointment?

First you need your motorcycle permit. You can get this by taking a written test at any DMV. Then, to book a riding skills test, call the DMV at 1-800-777-0133. Book your appt. on any Thursday, any time, and email me the time: Brian@dmvtestbike.com. I will meet you there 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment in the motorcycle parking area. If you can't get a Tuesday or Thursday appointment, no problem, call me.

Why San Diego Clairemont DMV?

This DMV has by far the easiest test circle, and the nicest examiners. That and we love the clairemont dmv folks.

How Much Practice Time Do I Get?
I'll meet you 1/2 hour before your scheduled appt. This is plenty of time to get comfortable on the bike. Most testers only use 15 min practice time due to the ease of riding this bike. If you're a bit rusty or just need more time riding I highly recommend the skillspack.

Will your bike qualify me for a M1 license?
Yep.

What happens after I get my license?
Best to sign up for this and this!
